Welcome back
to another Science Fiction Fantasy Saturday! It’s your one stop reading shop
for some fun weekend reading. This week we’re closing in on the end of my run
with my short story Last Zombie Standing. With only one necronaut left, the
secret of the box is about to be revealed. If you haven’t had a chance to keep
up, I posted links to the older snippets at the bottom of the page. Make sure
you stop over at the main site and check out all of the contributions from this
week’s writers by clicking HERE.
I hope you enjoy!____________________________________________________________________
“What are
you babbling about, man?” the general asked. “Deploy Zulu-2’s snare arm and get
the package back to the shuttle.”
“All we know
is fighting, sir. I mean, even our dead can’t rest in peace. Maybe that’s the
message our alien benefactors are trying to tell us?”
“Don’t go
all hippie on me, Kingston. We’re top dog for a reason.”
“And what
reason is that, sir?”
“Because…we…dammit, I’ll do it myself then.”
A metal
grappling hook extended from Zulu-2’s belt, the prongs searching the energized
atmosphere.
The glowing
sheath surrounding the box faded as the mechanized arm closed in.
“What the
hell is that?” the general boomed.
“It looks like a bomb with a plunger
on top,” Kingston said. “I told you it was a trap, sir.”
Don’t you
hate I told you so’s? Tune in next
week for the exciting conclusion (I think) of Last Zombie Standing. (That’s
just fun to type) I hope you’ve enjoyed the story so far. Leave a comment on
your way out – they’re always appreciated. My new novel, Maxx Fragg, V.P.I. is
up and available for pre-order now from my publisher’s website by clicking HERE – order your
copy today and get it before the official release date! Thanks to everyone for
their support!

Still thoroughly enjoying this one...and always great dialogue. "Don't go all hippie on me" -- heh.
ReplyDeleteThe general did have his share of great lines in this story. When it's done - maybe I'll have to post a recap of some of the better ones.
DeleteFinally, we have a clue to what is happening!
ReplyDeleteWhat?! It's a post apocalyptic zombie multinational lunar mission focused around a mysterious energy source left by an extra-terrestrial race whose intentions may be to save or destroy our planet. I could have just posted that and saved everyone all that reading. Hope you're enjoying it, Aurora.
DeleteLove the visual of the plunger on top. Nothing says you're screwed like a big red button or plunger that must never, ever be pushed for any reason, yet has somehow been pressed anyway. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more. I thought maybe the plunger was a little over the top and then I thought, "Hey, I've got zombies fighting on the moon." So there it is in all its plunger glory. I don't think this one is going to get pressed though. Seriously.
DeleteWell, bombs do generate energy...
