Welcome to another Sci-Fi Fantasy
Saturday! I’ve been staying with
snippets from my current WIP, which I’ve tentatively titled Myth-In-Law and we’ve followed Sam and
his grandfather for the past several weeks building up to Sam receiving a strange
package from a mysterious stranger. I
hope, if you have time and haven’t already, you’ll take a couple minutes to
catch up on the other snippets I’ve submitted here and leave a few comments
along the way. Enjoy. Please be sure to check out all the other
fantastic snippets by the other great writers over at SciFiFanSat.blogspot.com. It makes for some great weekend reading! ‘Nuff said.
Pulling out the note from his father,
Sam read through it again.
“The
key is in my head…all in my head.”
Sam closed his eyes, concentrating on the
book, and waved his hand over the cover.
“Open sesame. I command thee unlock. These are not the droids you’re looking for.”
Nothing.
“Great, I’m turning into Grandpa.”
Sam sighed and tapped his fingers against
the wood, knowing he missed something.
“That’s it!”
What? What is it?? Great cliff-hanger :)
ReplyDeleteThat's the joy of snippets. Next week...maybe. Ha. Thanks for commenting.
DeleteUrr. Don't you just hate it when 'open sesame' doesn't work. And double urrr. What is it?
ReplyDeleteTriple urrr! Just because its fun. Disappointingly I find most magic phrases don't hold up their end of the bargain. Abra-capocus!
DeleteNice snippet. So glad I introduced you to this community.
ReplyDeleteGreat place to stop the snippet. Leave us hanging, why don't ya?! And, I loved the Star Wars quote.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Patrick. I have to admit it played in to using the snippet. Appreciate the comments.
DeleteLove the "pop-culture" reference. And the flippancy of his efforts at spell-casting. Good snippet - thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Peter! Things will get more serious for Sam soon enough.
ReplyDeleteIf the key's in his head, how about touching the book with his head?
ReplyDeleteAfter last week's screwdriver incident, I don't think Sam will be putting his head anywhere near it. Maybe another magic word. He didn't try , "Shakazooie!"
DeleteI love the humor in this! Heh.
ReplyDeleteAnd what a great (but frustrating) cliffhanger. He's got it, but we don't know! Argh!
Thanks, Ann. I'm really enjoying where this story went. I think the book resolution will satisfy. Guess well see.
DeleteI'm too impatient to wait until next week to find out what "it" is, so I'll just go ahead and finish your snippet (we don't want everyone having to wait around on pins and needles, of course).
ReplyDeleteHere we go:
"That's it!"
Sam flipped it over. There, on the back, and quite plain to see, was a large, round, red button, above which, written in bold, 'friendly letters,' was the word, "Open."
"Ah-ha!" Sam said, quite pleased by his detective skills.
;)
You gave the book an "easy" button!! That's brilliant! Now he just needs to notice the library card inside the cover, return the book, pay the substantial overdue fees and that's a wrap! Thanks Cary, that gave me a good chuckle.
DeleteAh, so grandpa can help open the book?
ReplyDeleteIt's a family thing. Ha. Sam better get this book open before the cliffhanger turns into a dead end. Ten sentences at a time. Thanks for the comment!
